Toronto swept Councillor Rob Ford into the Mayor's chair Oct. 25 with an astounding victory that also saw a huge overhaul in the city council.

CBC Radio's city hall reporter Jamie Strashin spoke with thedailyplanet.com Tuesday morning about the election results.

"I think everyone was surprised at Rob Ford's margin of victory - clearly a resonating message from voters that they expect some kind of change at City Hall," said Strashin.

Strashin said the polls leading into the election that put Ford and George Smitherman neck and neck were irrelevant, since the only poll that mattered was election day results.

Mayor-elect Ford is going to need to compromise because while he can work on a lot of his financial campaign promises, transit projects, like Transit City, are already in the works, Strashin said.

However, Strashin said councillors are also going to need to co-operate with Ford because of the 47 per cent margin, which put him in power.
