Harlequin Enterprises Limited has announced it will be bringing some of its books to Nintendo DS users in Japan.
“They [Nintendo] were really looking for people that could provide stories that were sort of linked in some way and they could take advantage of the brand,” Stephen Miles, executive vice president of Harlequin Enterprises Limited, told TheDailyPlanet.com. Miles said the DS chips contain interactive activities which let the reader get the exact story they want. Readers can fill out a questionnaire on the type of book they want to read, how long of a story and where the hero is from. The story also allows you to bookmark the story and come back to it. It will give you a synopsis of the story up until the point you left off, said Miles. Other features include maps of the area where the book takes place or the character's house, a relationship chart that allows you to see who the characters are involved with at the point you're reading, and at the end of the story you can answer a poll question about the hero. "We are thrilled to be the first publisher outside of Japan to have its stories available on the Nintendo DS. DS Harlequin Selection introduces Harlequin to a new generation of readers who demand accessibility, portability and supplemental features that enhance their reading experience," said Donna Hayes, publisher and CEO of Harlequin Enterprises Limited which was reported in a press release from the company. The 35 stories will be some of the best written in the past five years along with some new ones and some short stories from their website, Miles said. The stories are only available in Japan at the moment and retail for the equivalent of $45 Canadian. |
