The accused George Doodnaught of Toronto has worked for North York General Hospital for 28 years. The complaints were made by three women, ranging in age from mid-thirties to late eighties. The women allege the incidents took place between August, 2007 and last month. Doodnaught was charged with three counts of sexual assault, and has been let go for the duration of the investigation. Constable Wendy Drummond from Toronto Police Service told TheDailyPlanet.com the investigation is ongoing and no new victims have come forward. “From a policing perspective, our goal here is to try and identify if there are more victims, and appealing to them to come forward, and anybody that has any information, such as witnesses, or anything that would assist us with the investigation that we have now,” she said. Drummond said Doodnaught has been released on bail, and is expected to appear in court on April 1. Drummond could not reveal the conditions of his bail, but said the accused was placed under strict restrictions. North York General held a press conference, to discuss the state of the investigation. President and CEO of North York General, Bonnie Adamson spoke to reporters on March 11. “We’re shocked and devastated that this may have happened at North York General Hospital,” said Adamson at the press conference. “I can’t imagine how painful this must be for those patients who have come forward. People put their trust in us as healthcare providers and we take that accountability very seriously,” she said. Adamson said the investigation results would determine if future hospital protocols are needed for additional doctors to be present, while patients are sedated. Adamson assured the public these charges have been attributed to only one physician in the hospital. “Patients should continue to feel safe when coming to our hospital for care,” said Adamson. Toronto police continue to urge victims or anyone with information to come forward. |
