The 10th annual Game Developers Choice Awards presented winners on Thursday, with Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 2: Among Thieves taking five awards, including Game of the Year.

“The winners at the Game Developers Choice Awards have exhibited that they can create compelling experiences that set the bar even higher for other developers to follow,” said GDC event director Meggan Scavio in a media release.

Uncharted 2 took home awards for Game of the Year, Best Writing, Best Technology, Best Visual Arts and Best Audio.

Other winners include Rocksteady Studios’ Batman: Arkham Asylum for Best Game Design, Runic Games’ Torchlight for Best Debut Game, and 5th Cell’s Scribblenauts for the Innovation Award.

Technology guru John Carmack, who helped develop games like Wolfenstein 3D and Doom, was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award, said a GDC release.

Valve Software’s Gabe Newell received the Pioneer Award for his work on the Half-Life series and for co-creating Steam, the digital download platform for PC which now sees over two million users daily.

Penny Arcade webcomic creators Jerry Holkins, Mike Krahulik and Robert Khoo were given the Ambassador Award for advancing the game industry with their Child’s Play Charity and Penny Arcade Expo, said a GDC release.

The award ceremony is part of the 2010 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, which hosts four days of panels, lectures and an expo for video game developers, according to the GDC website.
