Members of a Vaughan-based band say they're honoured to headline for Canadian Music Week 2010.

“They are very excited and they can’t wait,” said Eugene Mauro, manager of Glass Ampp.

The band name stems from the initials of the first and last names of all members beginning with Gianluca Mauro, lead guitarist, Anthony Ascenzi on drums, Steve Poretta lead singer and Steve Persanti on bass.

Glass Ampp members said they wouldn’t categorize their band into one specific genre of music but are heavily influenced by artists such as Led Zeppelin, ACDC, The Beatles and Bob Marley.

“We want to bring music back to the way it was before but in a different style,” said Poretta.

Canadian Music Week features over 700 local and international bands and aspiring new artists playing at 45 venues across Toronto.

Performing artists include Our Lady Peace, Hedley, Danny Fernandes, Karl Wolf and Faber Drive to name a few.

“There’s a lot of big name bands there,” said Eugene Mauro, who is also Gianluca's brother.

Eugene added that Glass Ampp was discovered at the Opera House where talent agents for the festival “just loved us.”

“They said they haven’t had a group like us. Over the year they grab the best talent in Toronto and said they thought we were the best bet.”

Eugene acknowledges that this event is a great opportunity for the boys, exposing them to the public and press on a large scale.

As for future plans, the band will release their first CD on April 10 at the grand opening of the Rockpile at 5555 Dundas Street in Toronto.
